Miracle Mile runs along and around Wilshire Boulevard, which Reyner Banham called a “linear downtown” for its preponderance of mid-century high-rises. The neighborhood’s marvelous name owes to the fact that L.A.’s Museum Mile is here, which is anchored by Southern California’s own encyclopedic museum, LACMA. Across the street is the American outpost of Sprueth Magers, which represents the likes of John Baldessari, Lizzie Fitch and Ryan Trecartin, and Sterling Ruby, among others.

Just west of Fairfax on Wilshire is a complex hosting 1301PE, mounting exhibitions by Philippe Parreno, Diana Thater, and Pae White, and Praz Delavallade, showing Ry Rocklen, Amanda Ross-Ho, and Analia Saban.

While to the south are two galleries off La Brea, David Kordansky Gallery, whose program includes Rashid Johnson, Torbjorn Rodland, and Tala Madani, and Kayne Griffin Corcoran, which works with Mary Corse, Peter Shire, and James Turrell.

On the eastern fringes of the area is the Marciano Art Foundation, a private museum that opened in 2017 in a renovated former Masonic temple.
