Pacific Standard Time: 1945-1980 Programming

The J. Paul Getty Trust brought ForYourArt onto the team alongside TBWA/Chiat/Day and Ruder Finn to raise maximum awareness around Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. 1945-1980.

ForYourArt’s unique location at the intersection of the Los Angeles media culture and the art world ecosystem enabled us to work with local galleries, artists, museums and curators to build deep engagement for Pacific Standard Time locally and globally. One of the ways in which ForYourArt fulfilled this relationship was through curated programming in Los Angeles and beyond.

Meet the Curators
As part of our multifaceted partnership with the Getty for the 2012 Pacific Standard Time, ForYourArt produced a number of events including three “Meet the Curators” events at Soho House leading up to and during Pacific Standard Time. The first event in June 2011 introduced the audience to Robin Clark from the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, Lisa Melandri from the Santa Monica Museum of Art and Karen Moss from the Orange County Museum of Art. September’s event included Charlotte N. Eyerman from the Natural History Museum, Ritz Gonzalez from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Paul Schimmel from the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Lastly, in anticipation to the Performance and Public Art Festival Lauri Firstenberg and Glenn Phillips presented in December 2011.

Conversation with Steve Martin and Frederic Tuten
Additionally, On October 12, 2010, ForYourArt programmed a Conversation with Steve Martin and Frederic Tuten at The Getty. Martin read from his book, An Object of Beauty, and Tuten from Self Portraits: Fictions, the cover of which is an original drawing by Roy Lichtenstein.

Following the readings, the authors were joined by Andrew Perchuk, deputy director of the Getty Research Institute, for an informal discussion on how visual art influences their work and lives. The sold-out audience listened as the two writers and longtime friends spoke about their personal history with the Los Angeles art scene, art and language.

PST at Art Basel Miami Beach
At the December 2010 Art Basel Miami Beach, ForYourArt produced Pacific Standard Time themed conversations at the art fair and Rubell Family Collection, featuring artists Eleanor Antin, John Baldessari, Andrea Bowers, Charles Gaines, and Analia Saban with curators including Andrew Perchuk, Glenn Phillips, and Ali Subotnick.
