Artist Books and Cookies: Celebrating LA
Democracy Forum of the Japanese American National Museum (Downtown)
As part of Printed Matter’s LA Art Book Fair, artists and attendees are invited to celebrate the great artist book tradition of John Baldessari and Edward Ruscha by bringing a book they’ve made, or a favorite artist book for a portrait by photographer Gaea Woods. This celebration coincides with the launch of the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing’s The Los Angeles Project, which called on LA artists Kathryn Andrews, Aaron Curry, Alex Israel, Matthew Monahan, Sterling Ruby, Ryan Trecartin, and Kaari Upson to make an artist book. Attendees will receive a free copy of the ForYourArt Guide to Los Angeles with personal and satirical tours of the city made by the seven artists especially for the guide, as well as an interview with Jim Heimann, writer, historian, and executive editor at TASCHEN. Add your ideas and help us make a collaborative artist tour of the city at the event. Signed copies of the The Los Angeles Project books, co-edited by Karen Marta and Brian Roettinger, will be available. Cookies from Sqirl will be served.
