States of Matter

Opening reception for an installation by Shana McCaw and Brent Budsberg. The work was produced in conjunction with the Center for Land Use Interpretation’s Wendover, UT Residence program. The exhibition of photography and video documents the toil of two pioneer-era characters.
Love with Stranger x COCO Book Launch
Various Small Fires (Venice)
This event, hosted at Ooga Booga’s pop-up shop inside Various Small Fires, is a book launch for LA-based artist Margaret Haines’ Love With Stranger x COCO. This book is a “trailer” for her forthcoming feature-length film Coco and explores different elements of female identity. Nail artist Madeline Poole to offer custom nai paitings for donations benefitting the Downtown Women’s Center.

The Edge of Forever

Written by Elizabeth Cline and Lewis Pesacow, The Edge of Forever is a chamber operetta inspired by the ending of the Mayan Long Count Calendar. This is a one time only performance. Tickets are $12 and available online.
Holiday Boat Parade 2012
600 East Bay Avenue (Newport Beach)
The 104th annual Boat Parade in Newport Beach and the End Of The World party. The boat parade runs from 6pm-9pm. A Latin Brass Orchestra will perform during the ceremony, and DJs will spin late into the night. This event is 21+ and holiday and cocktail attire is encouraged. This group show features paintings, collages and more by artists including Wendell Gladstone, Roberto Matta, Matt Greene, Mark Ryden, Jack Roth, Till Gerhard, and Richard Butler. On view through February 9, 2013.

Los Angeles Ballet returns to Valley Performing Arts Center with its production of The Nutcracker. Follow Clara and her Nutcracker to the magical Land of Snow, and to the enchanted Palace of the Dolls where all of Clara’s favorite companions come to life. Tickets are available online.

L.A. County Holiday Celebration

A medley of seasonal music and dance on display at this year’s L.A. County Holiday Celebration. Bands, choirs, and dance companies representing the diverse cultures and holiday traditions of L.A. take the stage at this event. There is free parking and pre-show plaza activities beginning at 12pm.

Presented by the monthly screening series Moving Image Art (MIA), this event features a selection of works from the Another Experiment By Women Film Festival, which promotes the work of women making experimental films. Curated by Lili White, the screening features works by filmmakers including Alessandra Cianelli, Angela Ferraiolo, and Sasha Waters Freyer.
