Wall Works: Art of Exchange

Opening reception for the 20th installation of Wall Works. This biannual exhibition features the works created in the Art of Exchange, a local outreach program that connects contemporary artists with students from the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. Event attendees can participate in their own arts and crafts projects at the event. On view through February 3, 2013.

What Can We Learn from Documenta 13

Presented by discussion series SOC(i)AL: Art + People, this event features speakers present images and explore selected Documenta projects from the summer of 2012 throughout Kassel Germany. Moderated by Pilar Tompkins Rivas, the talk features presentations from artists and curators who participated in or visited the contemporary art exhibition Documenta 13. The evening will look at projects and reflect on the relation to current social practice.

This event has been postponed indefinitely. REDCAT and MOCA present a solo performance by iconic pianist and poet Cecil Taylor. Now his in 80s, Taylor has been awarded both Guggenheim and MacArthur fellowships for his jazz-based music. This show is presented in conjunction with MOCA’s current exhibition Blues For Smoke, which explores ideas and forms of Blues music in contemporary art. Tickets are $55 and available online.
