Los Angeles Antiques, Art and Design Show

The Los Angeles Antiques, Art and Design Show features works by more than 60 artists from around the world. The  four day show honors antiquarian Joel Chen with the 2012 Design Leadership Award and benefits the LACMA Decorative Arts and Design Council. Admission is $20 and includes a show catalog.

Julia Schwartz : Trading Maps for Stars Poetry Reading
Bleicher Gallery (Mid-City)
This free event features readings by poets David Shaddrock, Douglas Brayfield, and Eve Wood. A mixer will follow the readings. This event is presented in conjunction with the Gallery’s current exhibition , on view through October 15, 2012.

Volume 14 – Chinese Cocktail listening party with Robert Wilhite
ForYourArt at 6020 Wilshire Blvd. (Miracle Mile)
Originally performed in 1978 at the San Francisco Art Institute as Chinese Cocktail and then at the Newport Harbor Museum of Art as Ido Ceremonial Music, Wilhite’s musical performances attempt to demonstrate the potential sounds of otherwise mute objects. X-TRA presented a re-staging of Robert Wilhite’s Chinese Cocktail as part of the Pacific Standard Time Performance and Public Art Festival on January 24 2012. This free event is part of  X-TRA’s 15 Years in 15 Days.

Le Salon de Musiques
Dorothy Chandler Pavillion (Downtown)
This event is the the first concert of Le Salon de Musiques’ 3rd season. The concert will feature a series of orchestral pieces and be introduced by musicologist Julius Reder Carlson. The musicians will take part in an audience discussion following the performance. Tickets are $65 and available online.
