Opening reception for a show featuring works by Argentinian artist Diego Singh. Unimodern Gondolieri features Singh’s large-scale denim paintings in addition to his more recent text-based captcha series.

Volume 7 – “A Talk With Images and Music

This talk features a discussion based on four excerpts from Jan Tumlir’s article “The Magic Circle: On The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper and the Invention of Art Rock,” featured in Volume 7 of X-TRA, and the current issue article “Dark-Side Minimalism.” This free event is part of X-TRA’s 15 Years in 15 Days.

The Sota Project
USC Fischer Museum of Art (Downtown)

Opening day of The Sota Project, an immersive video installation that reenacts a controversial text from the Talmud. The piece invites viewers to step into room-sized moving panoramas created from video projections on all four walls of the exhibition space. These multiple narratives question the notion of a single, coherent truth in relation to this rarely told ancient story. On view through December 1, 2012.

This free, all ages event temporarily removes car traffic from a specified downtown route and provides attendees the opportunity to experience the urban environment on bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, and any other motorless mode of transportation. The route includes Exposition Park, Chinatown, Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights, and Grand Park, where CicLAvia converges with the inaugural celebration of the park’s performance lawn. Activities include including music, performances, and food trucks.

Offramp Gallery presents the thirteenth in an ongoing series of dialogues about art, artists, and exhibitions. The free event features Ezrha Jean Black, Peter Frank, critic Shana Nys Dambrot, and artist/writer John O’Brien. Art historian Betty Ann Brown will moderate.

Los Angeles Modern Auctions’ 20th Anniversary auction features more than 500 works by artists including Sam Francis, George Nakashima, Richard Pettibone, David Hockney, and prints by Andy Warhol, Ed Ruscha, John Baldessari, and more.

Todd Madigan Gallery (Bakersfield)

Opening reception for a group show featuring works by artists including Justin Beal, Liz Glynn, Karl Haendel, and Brian Sharp. Each Sunday at 4pm for the past three years, the artists, writers, and curators featured in this exhibition have met at a  Los Angeles park to play soccer. Sunday @ 4 includes these artists participating in an exhibition game at 3pm on the main soccer field at California State University Bakersfield. On view through November 10, 2012.
