Sand Mandalas by Tibbetan Buddhist Monks

The Pacific Asia Museum welcomes monks from the Drepung Loseling Phukhang Monastery for a five day stay during which the monks create a sand mandala in Pacific Asia Museum’s Changing Exhibition Gallery. The monks commence this event with a 30-minute Blessing Ceremony that includes chanted mantras and music. Visitors are invited from 10am to 5pm daily.

A Complex Weave: Women & Identity in Contemporary Art
USC Fisher Museum of Art (Downtown)

Opening day of A Complex Weave, an exhibition featuring works by sixteen women artists of diverse backgrounds. The show focuses on the concepts of gender and identity in contemporary art and includes photography, video, painting, printmaking, sculpture, fiber and metals and installation. On view through September 1, 2012.

Lick It Into Shape
Guggenheim Gallery at Chapman University (Orange)

Opening reception for a group show featuring works by artists including Brandon Andrew, Young Chung, Public Fiction, Samara Golden, Alex Jasch, Cyril Kuhn, Davida Nemeroff, and Paul Pescador. Lick It Into Shape explores the concept of how ideas manifest. The event will feature a performance by Pescador. On view through September 20, 2012.
