Scott Greenwalt: Phenomenal Specimens

Opening reception for Phenomenal Specimens, an exhibition of paintings and works on paper by Oakland-based artist Scott Greenwalt. The event features a performance by musical group BARFTH at 9pm. On view through August 26, 2012.

LaLa Gallery (Downtown)
Opening reception for an exhibition featuring works by artists including How & Nosm, Insa, Push, Revok, Risk, Ron English, Seen, Shepard Fairey, Trustocorp, WCA Crew, Uglar, and Zes. Public Works features a series of murals to be initially displayed at the gallery and then on billboards throughout Los Angeles during the next year. On display at LaLa through August 17, 2012.

Let’s Start With the Obvious
Machine Project (Echo Park)
Opening of a 20-minute one-act play in which Johanna Reed stars as “A Hero” and Marcus Kuiland-Nazario as “Her Arch-nemesis.” Their lines are a transcription and impersonation two YouTube compilations of the greatest movie insults and threats of all time. The play will be followed by a guided meditation session. Tickets are $5 and available online.

Animation August Screening: Bolt
Hancock Park (Miracle Mile)
Screening Begins at Sundown
Presented by LACMA, this free film event features a screening of the animated film Bolt. Families are welcome to bring a blanket and picnic to enjoy during this outdoor event. Pets on a leash are allowed. The series happens every Friday evening during August.
