This free talk by art history and archeology professor Justin St. P. Walsh explores how humanity’s expanding reach off the planet and into the universe can be integrated into our sense of history. The conversation to also touch on the obstacles to achieving this goal.
Africa Speaks, America Answers

This conversation between UCLA historian Robin D. G. Kelley and KCRW DJ Tom Schnabel will focus on the musical discourse that occurred in the late 1950s and early 1960s when African and American musicians began influencing each other via jazz and swing music. Kelley will sign copies of his new book Africa Speaks, America Answers: Modern Jazz in Revolutionary Times after the discussion.

Food and Food Systems in the 21st Century

Presented by TEDx, this day long event will explore local and global scale decisions regarding food and food production which will have profound impact on our planet in the coming years. Featured speakers include Future Cities Lab’s Jason Kelly Johnson and Nataly Gattegno, biologist John Marshall, Tara Kolla of Silver Lake Farms, and attorney, rancher, and author Nicolette Hahn Niman. Admission is $60 and include museum gallery access, lunch, and a post-event reception. Tickets are available online.
