Screening: Casting a Glance and Spiral Jetty

Coinciding with MOCA’s current exhibition, Ends of the Earth: Land Art to 1974, Los Angeles Filmforum presents a program of films around Robert Smithson’s earthwork Spiral Jetty. Smithson’s own film, Spiral Jetty (1970), explores the ideas and associations that inform the creation of the 1,500-foot coil. James Benning’s Casting a Glance (2007) documents the work over time. Benning will introduce the program. Tickets are $12 and available online.

Lucas Ajemian: Casual Relays. And Laundry

Opening reception for an exhibition of work by New York-based artist Lucas Ajemian. Casual Rays. And Laundry features a new series of laundered paintings, ladder “film” sculptures,  pedestal “essays,” video, and a sculpture created from a modified 16mm projector. On view through August 18, 2012.

Made in L.A. Music: Allah-Las
Hammer Museum (Westwood)

The third of the Made in L.A. 2012 Music series will feature a set by KCRW DJ Anne Litt in the Hammer’s courtyard. This free event will include extended gallery hours, a cash bar,  free museum admission and a performance by the Allah-Lahs. Presented by the The Hammer and KCRW, the Made in L.A. Music series will take place at the Hammer every Thursday evening through August 9, 2012.

Artist Conversations
Barnsdall Gallery Theatre (Los Feliz)

Presented in conjunction with Made in L.A. 2012, this free event will feature participating artists framing and contextualizing their work through talks, discussions, screenings, and performances. Artists include Meg Cranston, Liz Glynn, Vishal Jugdeo, Dashiell Manley, Nicole Miller, and Ry Rocklen.
