2012 Monster Drawing Rally
Armory Center for the Arts (Pasadena)

Outpost for Contemporary Art presents the Monster Drawing Rally–consisting of four one-hour shifts with 25 artists drawing simultaneously each hour. Completed drawings will be available for $75 each. Guest curators include Leonardo Bravo, Eve Fowler, Liz Glynn, Micol Hebron, New Highland Art Agents, Elana Mann, Evelena Ruether, and more. Popular food trucks will be on-site throughout the day. Beer provided by Pasadena’s own Craftsman Brewing Company. Music by DJs Trolley Parker & MANVNATURE. Kids drawing activities, too. $10 suggested donation at the door.

Raga and Tala: Music of India
Fowler Museum (Westwood)

This free family event will feature Indian classical music sung by Aditya Prakash. The program will also feature instruction on the basics of raga (melody) and tala (rhythm) and a workshop during which participants can make traditional anklets adorned with bells.

Lily Simonson: Wet and Wild
CB1 Gallery (Downtown)

Opening reception for Wet and Wild, artist Lily Simonson’s Los Angeles solo exhibition debut. Simonson’s paintings of insects and sea creatures combine zoological illustration with figure painting and abstract expressionism and depict newly-discovered species as emblems of sexuality and mortality. On view through July 29, 2012.

Pop Hop Pops Up

Book shop and print studio Pop-Hop presents a temporary weekend residency at ForYourArt. This event will feature a selection of books from the store, including art editions, literature, children’s books, zines, and Pop-up books, as well as a screenprinting workshop from 1-4pm. Readings from authors including Teresa Camody, Angie Lee, and Dave Cull will begin at 4:30pm.
