Robert Overby: Paintings & Drawings from the 1970′s
Marc Selwyn Fine Art (6222 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite 101)
This exhibition brings together paintings and drawings from the 1970s that articulate Overby’s interest in appropriated imagery, the figure and the underlying structure of painting. Overby constructed images by borrowing fragments of advertising, pornography, book cover illustrations, and various other popular ephemera.
Jorge Mendez Blake: Poems and Monuments

A solo show by Mexican artist Jorge Mendez Blake. Ranging from sculptures and drawings to wall paintings, and inspired by works of literature and poetry, Méndez Blake’s work draws connections between word and object, giving physical form to the written word. On view through July 14, 2012.

Adam D. Miller: Rise of the Minotaur and Noah Doely: The Expanse of a Fact
Steve Turner Contemporary (6026 Wilshire Boulevard)
Adam D. Miller’s Rise of the Minotaur will feature paintings, drawings, collages and sculptures which portray humans or animals in states of aggressive or violent behavior. Noah Doely’s The Expanse of a Fact will feature a series of ambrotype and tintype photographs generated with photographic tools and methods from the mid-19th century. Both shows on view through June 30, 2012.
Pop-Hop Pops Up

Book shop and print studio Pop-Hop Books & Print presents a temporary weekend residency at ForYourArt. Presented in conjunction with the Muse ArtWalk, this event will feature a selection of books from the store, including art editions, literature, children’s books, and zines in addition to a Pop-Up bookmaking workshop. The Pop Hop Pop Up will continue on Sunday, June 17, 2012.

Opening reception for an exhibition of contemporary furniture that advances the gallery’s focus on 20th and 21st century architects and designers. The exhibition also represents the debut of PLANEfurniture, a collection of modern furniture created by designer and collector Michael Boyd and inspired by modern furniture designers including Gerrit Rietveld, Rudolph Schindler, Jean Prouvé, and Donald Judd.
