Monster Drawing Rally @ the Armory Center for the Arts
Sunday, June 17 | 12-6pm
“Monster Drawing Rally, the annual fundraising event for the nonprofit Outpost for Contemporary Art, is not your usual benefit auction.” –The Los Angeles Times
Originated by Southern Exposure in San Francisco in 2001, the Monster Drawing Rally has been adopted successfully by Outpost for Contemporary Art for Los Angeles since 2004. The Monster Drawing Rally will be held at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena and consists of four one-hour shifts with 25 artists drawing simultaneously each hour.
“Demystifying a process that usually takes place in the privacy of the studio, the Monster Drawing Rally allows spectators to observe artists in the act of creation in the public domain.” –Southern Exposure
Completed drawings will be available for $75 each; if more than one person is interested in purchasing an artwork, cards will be drawn for the right to purchase.
Instead of picking the artists, the Outpost for Contemporary Arts invites guest curators to pick for them. This years guest curators are Carlyn Aguilar, Leonardo Bravo, Kristin Calabrese, Chloe Flores, Eve Fowler, Liz Glynn, Micol Hebron, Luis G. Hernandez, Maryam Hosseinzadeh, Bill E. Kelley, Jr., New Highland Art Agents, Elana Mann, Jill Newman, Karen Rapp, and Evelena Ruether.
There will be food trucks, Pasadena’s own Craftsman Brewing Company, music by DJs Trolley Parker & MANVNATURE, and Kids drawing activities.
$10 suggested donation at the door, and all proceeds benefit Outpost programs at the Armory.
