Lecture: Hollywood Cinema and the Real Los Angeles

Mark Shiel, a professor in the Department of Film Studies at King’s College London, will discuss the allurie of Los Angeles during this free lecture. Shiel’s new book, Hollywood Cinema and the Real Los Angeles, depicts the cinematic image of the city and reveals how its identity has been reflected and manipulated by its physical geography. A book signing will follow the program.

The 26th season of this classic film and entertainment series will begin with this screening of the 1973 film Paper Moon, which will be introduced by director Peter Bogdanovich. Tickets are $20 and available online. The season’s lineup also includes Tootsie, The Big Sleep, Robin Hood, and The Wizard of Oz. Through June 30.
