Presented by the Standard and Artillery Magazine, this free event will feature reading by comedy writer Michael Serrato, fiction writer, Tony Valenzuela, novelist Cheryl Klein and May Day! curator and poet Steven Reigns. The free event begins with a wine reception at 7pm. Readings begin at 8pm.

Business executive and Pulitzer Prize–winning reporter Sheryl WuDunn will discuss the empowerment of women as a crucial means of development around the world. Together with her husband, journalist Nicholas D. Kristof, WuDunn put forth this idea in Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, the bestselling book upon which the Skirball’s current exhibition Women Hold Up Half the Sky is based. The discussion will be moderated by KCRW’s Lisa Napoli. A Q&A and signing follow the program.
