Book Release: Electrical Banana
MOCA Family Store (Downtown)
LA release party for Electrical Banana, an examination of the international language of psychedelia that features experts including Heinz Edelmann of Yellow Submarine, Beatles artist Marijke Koger, Martin Sharp, and Dudley Edwards. This event, corresponding with next week’s release party in New York, will feature Koger in conversation with Norman Hathaway, a book signing, and a film screening.
Yom Hashoah Day of Commemoration
Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust (Mid-City West)
This day long Holocaust Remembrance Day event includes a memory walk with Holocaust survivors, children’s art activities, lectures and other artistic performances in the museum, outside of the museum, and in the Pan Pacific Amphitheater. A Ceremony of Commemoration will begin at 2pm and feature Keynote Speaker Professor Yehuda Bauer, world renowned Professor of Holocaust Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Earth Day at LACMA
LACMA will celebrate Earth Day with a day of programs and activities designed for all ages, including artist-led workshops, bike-related films, tours of the collection for families and adults, storytelling, sketching from nature, and a guided walkthrough of the natural art on campus. General museum admission is required; free admission will be granted to those with a bike helmet or bike parking receipts, or those who have traveled by alternative transportation.
Alternative Projections Presents: Conceptual Art Films from Los Angeles
Spielberg Theatre at the Egyptian (Hollywood)
This event, part of the Los Angeles Filmforum’s ongoing Alternative Projections series, features conceptual films by artists including Thom Andersen, John Baldessari, Morgan Fisher, Roberta Friedman, Jack Goldstein, Grahame Weinbren, David Wilson, and other filmmakers known both for working in film and in other media. Morgan Fisher will appear in person. Reservations are recommended for this free event.
California Institute of the Arts MFA Open Studios
This free annual event features CalArts MFA graduate candidates in Art, Photography and Media, and Art and Technology opening their workspaces to the public. Attendees can meet with artists and preview works-in-progress. Each artist will be available to answer questions and discuss their practice.
